It’s been a little over 2 weeks since I started my fitness journey (read all about it here!) and so I thought it was time to update you guys on my progress. As expected, there have been some easier and some harder moments, all which I’m going to share with you now.
As I mentioned in my first post, I have a few different methods I’m using to get my fitness and flexibility up. They are all home exercises, except for my goal of walking 10,000 steps a day, which can be achieved anywhere. For the first week I spent a lot of time at home because I am currently looking for a job, and so the home exercises were easy to complete and acted as a nice break. However, last week I decided last minute to go to the Netherlands for a few days to visit family. They were a busy few days and I ended up not doing any of my home exercises. I did walk and bike a lot when I was there, so I definitely still got my physical exercise in. It made me realise that exercise can, and should be, flexible. As much as I love doing my home workouts, I don’t always have time for them. On such days I am making a more conscious effort to stay active in other ways, such as walking.
Physically, the first week of exercise videos were tough. I did a few pilates-based workouts and wow, did my legs ache after those. It felt good though, knowing that I was working muscles which I haven’t worked in a long time. The same went for my abs; they were definitely sore that first week. I’m trying not to focus too much on seeing physical changes in my body, because that is not my focus. Also, it’s only been two weeks, I can’t expect my body to change overnight. I am also really enjoying my morning stretched; I can notice my flexibility improving and it is such a great way to start the day.
I’ve also felt the mental effects of exercising again. I feel much more productive and am sleeping a lot better than I was before. I’m also feeling a lot happier. Being unemployed isn’t fun and it can take a toll on your mental health. I’ve definitely noticed that the exercise has helped me feel happier. I think this is not only because exercise is just good for your overall health, but also because it makes me feel like I’m achieving something and it takes my mind off the job hunt for a little while. It’s pretty amazing what a 30 minute workout video can do to your life!
I think that is all the updates I have for the moment. For the next fitness update post I am planning to share with you some of my favourite workout videos, so keep a look out for that! Let me know in the comments if you have any specific workouts that you are loving at the moment.
